Chemi Blacking

The Chemi Blacking process is one of our Decorative Finishes. It will be effective on most low and high alloy steels with the exception of high chrome austenitic and martensitic stainless steels.
It produces a lustre finish dependent on base material condition which will not significantly affect frictional properties and therefore no adjustment need be made for torque settings on studs, bolts or nuts.
Chemi Blacking produces a protective surface that will moderately increase resistance to corrosion and increase life of components in service maintaining a high quality presentable and professional end product.

More About Chemi Blacking

Chemi Blacking is a cost effective solution, producing a black lustre finish on steel components. This is a cold chemical conversion of the surface resulting in an even oxide black finish.

This is a familiar finish often seen on fasteners both old and new, as well as small machined components. Parts are left with a protective oil film once blacked to aid corrosion resistance. However, this type of coating is not truly weather resistant it is more of a cosmetic finish hence why it is part of our decorative finishing services.

Benefits and Features of Chemi Blacking

There are many benefits to using this type of coating. Some of these benefits are;

  • Cosmetic Cold Blacking Process
  • Can be used on most steels
  • Used on fasteners & small fabrications
  • Minimal surface build up

This type of finish is typically used in the following areas.

  • Fasteners
  • Studs
  • Bolts
  • Nuts
  • Washers
